Had walked in today at this branch which began with a rather long wait for service, roughly 20 minutes. Then when I was called to approach the front desk a man in his late thirties greeted me and continued to ask me to wait longer.
After about 5 minutes I finally had his attention and told him about my problem. I explained to him that there was a charge for my checking account which I shouldn’t have received because by my understanding was long as I was under 24 I would not be charged for a chequing account. He was unaware that there even was such thing as a youth checking account and told me it did not exist, which is does. But unfortunately for me the cut off age was 23 not 24 to which I was uncomfortable with because an other branch told me it would be 24. Either way I should still have the account for free because I am a student. He then said I need to provide a letter of acceptance to open the account. I then proceeded to get pull it up in my laptop.
Meanwhile all of this is happening he was incredibly unfriendly and made it apparent every response he had was nudging me to leave.
Once I had pulled up my letter of acceptance he then said it wasn’t good enough because there was no end date. I then explained to him it’s a 5 year program and told him when my end date would be. This did not persuade him. So instead of offering and help or alternative he then again inferred I should leave.
At my wits end I decided you know what I’ve not been happy with tds service for a while now I’d like to close the account. So I asked to close my account.
Even still I was given excuses as to why he couldn’t do that right now and I would need to come back another time. To set an appointment. He didn’t offer to make one for me or give another alternatives.
I also asked when I close my account would I have to worry about any of my investment accounts. He said not but told me I needed to make another appointment to open a holding account for if I want to cash out in the future. Then I asked if he could do that and flat out said no which I highly doubt because what else is the function of his job. Then I asked do I really need to make a holding account if I have a line of credit can I not just transfer it to my line of credit? He said yeah I could just do that. So instead of being competent at his job he had told me several times to do something I didn’t need to further wasting my time.
The level of customer service I had received at this bank was beyond unacceptable. I am considering completely ending all banking at td and as other banks and financial institutions offer better deals and customer service. So what’s the point of staying with td.
