Have been a member here for 20 years. Unfortunately that membership will now be ending. Have had numerous issues over the years that I haven't experienced with other institutions I bank with. Not only is their technology not up to par, from their app to mobile banking, their knowledge of the services they offer as well as the financial sector in general seems to be inherently lacking across all levels of their organization.

I went to SCU to open saving account. I was told they need to do a hard check of my credit score for that. Totally ridiculous. No other bank would do this for saving account. It will lower my perfect score for putting my money into their account. Terrible experience

Bad service. They put the wrong address into my bank account. I went to SCU to change my address, when setup account, I gave them my driver license. (Not sure if they know how to read). Today, I need a bank statement with a new address, it turns out the address is wrong. So frustrating. Not sure what they are doing. Not sure if they sent any of my information to that address. All of my experience with SCU is geting worse and worse. My big mistake when choosing SCU.

Recently had the worst experience with lender Nicole Tumbocon at the Lagmodiere branch. As someone with experience in the consumer lending industry you could tell Nicole was very new to the position and Canadian banking industry in general. Nicole did not know basic appraisal costs, answers to entry level questions and wasn’t able to accurately calculate debt servicing metrics. In general Nicole lacked SCU product knowledge and was a poor representation of Steinbach Credit Union.

After escalating my experience to lending supervisor Jilliane Miranda over an appraisal done by SCU in error. Jillane, while polite, disappointingly opted to hold the appraisal ransom. While it would have been at no additional cost to keep a long-term member happy, Jiliane opted not to.

Unfortunately, SCU’s profit before long term member mentality lend me to another banking institution.

If you're looking for a mortgage don't bother with here. They're rates are fairly higher than other credit unions and banks, I had a deal fall through because the guy I was going through disappeared for 2 weeks without notice and they refused to transfer me to anyone else. Lawyers where Definitely not happy because even they couldn't get ahold of anyone. I also had a checking account with them which I closed due to the fact they have forgotten who's money it is. They believe it's thier money. Not your money. All around last 13 years with them has been absolutely appalling so I've switch everything to a new credit union and I don't regret it at all. Avoid this institution like the plague and if you're with them and the service is horrendous vote with your money, pack up and leave. You have 0 obligation to do business with them

I can't speak to anybody else's experiences at steinbach credit union, But I have been a member since 2012 and have never had an issue. This review is long overdue because I told a lending officer that I would give a good review based on his incredible service when I got a mortgage. His name is Andre L. and he went above and beyond when it came to mentoring and teaching me when I wanted to buy my first house. He was very personable and gave great advice in our meeting and in later emails. I felt like I could trust him when we spoke. I got granted a higher mortgage amount than anywhere else was offering and after seeing my savings and credit score it got bumped up even higher which was amazing. He even went in on a day off and finalized some paperwork with the appraisal and all the stars aligned for me. It was handled quickly when I really needed that. He continued to assist me over email and telephone until everything was wrapped up. After everything was done we had a final talk on the phone and he congratulated me. Honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience with it all.

Was wanting to open an account and transfer everything from another bank, I needed something specific and upon scheduling an appointment was assured that was available was even put on hold to have it verified yet when I went in for my appointment was told NO that's not possible and just shrug and say sorry; waste of time

I wanted to become a new member. Leaving my old bank due to poor customer service and inconvenience. I called prior to ensure I had everything I needed and allowed some time for questions. I waited in the lobby for half an hour with many workers walking past and not even acknowledging me. There was no one else waiting either. It was 5pm (closing time) when someone finally came to grab me. By then, I was told the bank is about to close and we don’t have enough time to set up an account so please come back tomorrow. I decided this bank is not a good fit. Even worse customer service and didn’t care to welcome a new member with cash in hand.
