If I could give 0 stars I would. This has been the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with.

Not only is the receptionist miserable and a complete downer to deal with, but there were so many things I wasn’t made aware of when signing my business insurance policy.

I have tried cancelling numerous times, and instead of being able to cancel THROUGH the company to which I’m paying my business insurance through, they always tell me to call the broker. Why can’t I cancel my policy with the company that’s taking money out of my account?

I am no longer running my business, have experienced hardship, and I now have to pay an insane outstanding balance on a business that is no longer in service.

Never will I deal with Portage again.

Terrible customer service. Barely answer the phone. And when you do get transferred to the department you want, it goes to voicemail.
They call THREE DAYS later. And if you miss the call they don’t leave a voicemail or anything. Have fun restarting the whole process again.

Tesh Smart very rude over the phone, yelled at me, and yelled at my grandma when we were trying to explain a claim we would need to make. Not patient at all, terrible additude, and very unprofessional. She had yelled at me a few weeks back and my grandma just told me it was probably a misunderstanding however today when she reached out tesh had been yelling and giving very snarky attitude towards my grandma. NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL AND DO NOT RECOMMEND GETTING INSURANCE THROUGH THIS COMPANY.

I was loyal client for many years and when I asked for a review of my insurance they came back with an increase, when I advised them I was changing they dropped my rate by $1000.00. How long had they been putting the screws to me. When I switched they wanted to charge me for 1 day over, I should have got a rebate a nd I may have stayed. All the years with them I never had a claim.

19 year customer and supposedly a 7/7 in terms of rating (highest rating) with them and they jacked up my rates by $100 a month on my recent renewal. Nice way of "rewarding" one of your more desirable customers.
Will not be renewing with them again when I can get the old rate I had with another company.
My broker at the time was no longer using Portage and now I know why. Treating valuable customers like this is just down right despicable.
Just to add to this, I was just charged almost $600!!! to cancel the policies withing 30 days... Robbery. Stay away.

Poor handling with sisters claim, the claim officer stop responding and zero support. Pay extra for better insurance company. My sister have to get help from a lawyer for them to do respond to her.

They are a great company. I was broken into and I just signed up for their renters insurance 2 days prior. They were extremely helpful and my claim was settled fast. I also have my car insurance from them and I find them very easy to deal with.

I switched from Intact insurance to Portage La Prairie Mutual Insurance Co and it was the worst mistake of my life. My coverage with Portage started in June and it is now October and their finance department has yet to fix the on going issue with what they would like to withdraw for a payment out of my bank account. This has forced me to miss time from work once a month having to go and pay my auto and home insurance directly to my broker, unwarranted NSF Fees and stop payment fees from my bank because they decided to take more than we agreed upon for a payment. Not to mention the frustration of having a new piece of mail show up every week with a new amount that they want to charge me for insurance. If only I could turn back time I would have never switched insurance companies!! For anyone considering Portage for and Insurance provider please don't make the same mistake I did.
