MD is kinda a neat building. I scored a free cap from these guys. This company's service since the takeover my Scotiabank has deteriorated that we have to wait hours for a representative to answer regarding our money that they are holding. They now assume that MDs are their hostages. Terrible service in the last one year. Before that it was superb.

Used to be ok. Was owned by physicians, through the CMA, so you could feel that your interested were protected. Didn't perform any better than the other investment companies, though, so I had to learn a lot as a new grad, and keep a close eye on things. Otherwise the salaried advisors would simply go through the motions of 'advising' you into something generic.

Since the sale to BNS there's been a marked decrease in quality; I assume the new corporate owners have to recoup their 2.6 billion somehow. I've not noticed too much turnover, but there's been some consolidation.

What I have noticed is the caliber of new employees and advisors is stunningly low; mistakes are made that I wouldn't tolerate in my own office assistant. At MDM those people are promoted into 'financial advisors.' I'm not kidding, someone who was incapable of managing things as an admin disappeared, and when I asked, I was told she was now an advisor for MDM. Unbelievable.

As someone now in the mid-to-late part of their career, my advice - which I should've done - is to learn some basics of financial management. Discretionary management isn't worth the cost and lost opportunity. Build something with low cost index funds, or ETFs, and you'll do just fine. It's not rocket science, or in our case, medicine. If you can finish residency you can manage your own money.

The cafeteria offers good food choices.
