I am writing to express my concerns about the practices of Great Canadian Homes, whose work has left many homeowners, myself included, disappointed and frustrated.

When a family invests in a newly built home, there is an expectation that the builder will meet industry standards, complete all aspects of the project, and stand behind their work. Unfortunately, Great Canadian Homes has not held up their end of the deal. In my case, the rough grade in the yard has not been completed and they show no intentions of even doing it, and several deficiencies inside the home remain unresolved — including a missing vent from the basement to the ensuite bathroom, and even a broken basement window, and that is just scratching the surface of everything that is wrong with the home. These are basic but critical oversights that should never have been passed along to a homeowner.

A home is the largest investment most families will ever make. No homeowner should be left covering the cost of errors or unfinished work that should have been addressed properly the first time.

I urge anyone considering Great Canadian Homes to do their research carefully, and I call on the homebuilding industry to strengthen accountability measures to ensure builders deliver the quality they promise. Families deserve better.

Copy and pasted from my Facebook review. For some reason it’s no longer showing on Google.

**update 3** July 2025
We ended up settling with insurance with the flooring and got a payout to have the work completed ourselves. This was resolved around mid to end 2023.

Unfortunately, when we called them today to request details of the cabinets (make and model) that were used in the kitchen as we are having some added to the pantry they would not provide this info to us unless we deleted this review. Which we will not

**update 2** May 21 2023
Still having issues with them owning up to issues including fixing the flooring that has lifted all over the main floor. Absolutely terrible “builder” to deal with.

**update** December 2022
many of the services we required for them to fix never got completed due to no shows or not responding to us, so we had to go through new home warranty.

July 2022 — Unfortunately we have not had good customer service once the deal was finalized. The builder was great up to that point. But since then it was like pulling teeth to get the touch ups and remainder of services completed. Booking a date and time with them means nothing. They never show at the scheduled times or even on that day, which usually meant one of us took time off work to be here for them. They don’t see an issue with how much metal debris and garbage was left around the sites and neighbourhood. Including siding slivers, and cuts. Wrappers and zip ties, blades, nails and other crap and they just pack it in to the dirt. A piece from our railing inside was missing glass when we moved in so they had plexiglass installed in the mean time. However it was sharp and the kids scratched their arms several times on it. 5 days ago they took the plexiglass out to cut glass for the spot and they never came back and left an open spot on the stairs where my middle child has fallen and got hurt. We have messaged and called and no responses. Below are images we had to nag to get cleaned up and constantly message the builder. Then the more cleaner photos is what they still left behind including huge metal slices. The plexiglass missing as well.

Purchasing a new build home from them is one of the worst things i have ever done.

Some of their homes are without a doubt beautiful , but my goodness they could not have hired cheaper labor.

* Furnace problems;
* Electrical problems;
* Laminate floor has been falling apart since the first year;
* Driveway cracking like I have never seen in 15 year old homes;
* Plumbing issues created by things left inside the pipes during construction;
* Siding problems,

Also be ready because they only seem to use products that are discontinued so when you need the product to repair their mistake you won't find it anywhere.

Every time you call them to "repair" something it's an issue and it feels like are asking for them to do you a favor. Quality of the repairs is as bad as the work they did in the first place.

I had a great experience buying a home from Great Canadian Homes. Their exceptional customer support (that could take a hot minute sometimes) always looked after my needs and concerns. Even when our warranty was up they offered to do minor repairs and maintenance free of charge. I’d highly recommend!

If I could rate my experience with Great Canadian Homes less than 1 star, I would.
My husband and I have been living in our home for 3+ years and everything to do with this house has been so frustrating, unprofessional and irritating. For a "custom" home builder, custom doesn't seem to actually mean what it says, it's more like "custom... unless the builder just decides to do whatever he wants".
I'm sure we were annoying buyers because we felt like we had to babysit the entire process of the build along the way, but if we hadn't, I can't even imagine the things that would have been missed.
For example:
Our house was supposed to have 9ft ceilings on every floor with 8ft doors for all doors not inside a bedroom (off hallways, bathrooms, front door, etc). The builder had tried to build the house with standard height ceilings and doors until we walked through the house and noticed it and demanded it get changed.

We picked a paint color for the entire house, they decided to paint the house in a discontinued paint color that did not match what we picked for the walls or even what I had based all the interior finishes on - they outright refused to repaint the walls. I wouldn't have been so upset by it had we not had an "open to above" concept in our living room with 20+ ft ceilings that would require me renting scaffolding to re-paint. Now everytime I'm in my house, I can't help but notice that things don't look the way I want them to or had planned for because they cut corners.

The exterior of our house is a mismatched mess because they wouldn't communicate what was approved/denied for our choices before it was too late.

That is just a short-list of the items that happened during the building process, dealing with them after possession was a whole other beast. The contractors were IMMENSELY unreliable and unprofessional. I can't count how many hours I wasted waiting for contractors to come in to repair something only for them to show up hours late or not at all, be unreachable by text, email or call, or show up unannounced/unscheduled. If they did show up, the work would be done lazily and poorly and would need to be re-done anyways, where I would spend countless more hours waiting for them to come to "fix" their work.

Seriously, stay away. I don't have a lot of experience with home building, but I have to believe that it gets better than this garbage excuse for a custom home builder.

We recently purchased our home through Great Canadian Homes Ltd. and we couldn’t be happier with the experience! Heman and Kabir were absolutely amazing to work with—very professional, approachable, and attentive.

The builder was quick to address and fix any issues we encountered, ensuring everything was handled promptly. We also opted for the spice kitchen upgrade, and it has been a fantastic addition to our home, perfectly suiting our needs.

Overall, we are extremely satisfied with the quality of service and the home itself. We would highly recommend Great Canadian Homes Ltd. to anyone looking for a builder they can trust!

Bought from them 2 years ago. Nothing but issues and poorly built. They never show up on time or at all for appts they make to discuss/fix issues. They don't even fix things that they have agreed to and signed a contract to have fixed. Also extremely disrespectful to women. I would have a question or make a comment, they would answer my husband and act like I wasn't there. I have no idea where these 5 star reviews are coming from, either made up accounts or family cause their builds and customer service are a joke.

Very unprofessional. Still waiting on them to fix the siding of our house. They refuse to talk to us anymore. Will most likely have to take it to courts to resolve. Poor finishing on all parts of the house. Very disrespectful to my wife, completely ignored her when she asked questions or pointed out issues. If I could give them a zero star I would.
