How often does a branch manager take your appointment because the person you're scheduled to meet with is running a few minutes late? I was expecting to have to wait a bit past my appointment time, that's standard at my old bank. Alterna didn't let me wait for one minute past my scheduled time. A small thing perhaps but truly delightful. Excellent service through and through.

I would like to recognize Neena Gupta, Financial Analyst, for her exceptional professionalism and customer service. I had originally visited the branch simply to inquire about the possibility of opening a personal Line of Credit. Neena not only answered my questions clearly but also guided me through the entire process in a very methodical, organized, and client-focused manner.

Her ability to turn a simple inquiry into a seamless application experience reflected both her product knowledge and her genuine commitment to customer needs. She explained every step with clarity, ensured I was comfortable with the process, and handled the application with efficiency and care.

I left the branch highly impressed with Neena’s professionalism and customer-first approach. She is a valuable asset to the branch, and I am very appreciative of the outstanding service she provided.

So disappointed, as there is such a lack of customer service and response from the mortgage area of Alterna. No one responded to our multiple notes and phone calls to the mortgage department, so we went with a big bank. Alterna, please, get it together, as we want to bank with your fantastic credit union, but we can't do anything if no one responds to customer inquiries.

Major technology fail. Their website and app are extremely awkward and difficult to use. The cheque deposit feature on their app is absolute garbage. Constantly rejects cheques: claims the amount on the cheque doesn't match the entered amount (always does), doesn't recognize the front or back as being legitimate. Even now I'm forced to stick a cheque IN THE MAIL to get it deposited, because the app and bank machine do not recognize it. It's for $2300 and was issued over a month ago, and I cannot get this money because of Alterna's endless tech failures. I'm close to closing my account and moving on.

Really bad customer service and rude but I figured I’d ignore that because “I’m sure credit unions are better than faceless institutions.”

End up not really using the account (or its very archaic and limited web platform) and called to close it a couple months ago. Imagine my surprise when I’m told it was never closed and that I’ve been incurring fees the whole time.

After much consternation I find from the head office that they did forward my closing request to THIS SPECIFIC BRANCH but that no action was taken nor were any notes made. The branch hung up on me when I asked to file a complaint and for them to check their system for the closing. Now they’re literally not picking up.

This is basically a small microcosm of the issues with this branch in particular. Bad customer experience, outdated banking tech and I wouldn’t recommend trusting a financial institution that can’t keep its records straight about something as simple as an account closing.

Do not waste your time or money here.

A big bank will have reliability, if not optimal fees, and one of the online-only new independent banks will offer better rates than alterna, which is bogged down by its inefficiencies and physical locations. In case you can’t tell, I am very annoyed 😛

P.S. to management, who I assume rarely visit this location, I’d look a bit more closely at the reviews that praise specific employees. They read to me as fake and likely the specific employees themselves covering up for the fact that they offer abysmal customer service
