Wanted my bank to 'allow' me to increase my debit card limit for the day for back to school shopping. Was told they could only do it for two hours. Have to pick up a tablet this afternoon and the time would be expired by then. I regret changing to this bank from my previous one. Was also told I could not get a car loan because they weren't doing them anymore. Had to go to TD bank. Going to be moving all my accounts there

I recently started Banking with Alterna because my “Big” Bank’s customer service became less than helpful!! I had a personal Banking officer at my “Big” Bank, whom I dealt with for decade's, up and left without any notice to me. The Bank manager did not call or notify me of her absence. I found out she had left when I called her extension and received a man’s name!!
Unfortunately, I’m only a number now & this lack of loyalty doesn’t work for me.
Alterna has replaced the “Big” Bank I had dealt with since I was a teenager & I can’t be more grateful for the decision to become a member!!
Jason & the staff are friendly, helpful and go above & beyond their position's in customer service!
The staff already know my name & face and that’s impressive; I’m no longer a number but a face and name !!😀

I’m glad I never choose alterna savings as my bank. My colleague had her account hacked. If the bank was so smart they should have simple VPN protection against this and should’ve known a random location wasn’t Belleville - where she lives. The bank then let the hacker update her E-transfer status to over $6,000 when it had a previous limit of $500. The hacker deposited a few fake cheques and took the money by sending it to another account. She made a police report and the bank said it was all her fault. The amount was only $2,000 which isn’t that much for a bank to reimburse especially if it’s a teenager. Even if someone stole your password illegally how does this put you at fault! This bank was also robbed of $400,000 this year so stay away!! This should’ve never happened in the first place. I’ll stick to my RBC the safest bank in Canada.

The Credit Union has switched providers several times. We have been customers for 30+ years. Since switching to Alterna, there have been nothing but problems! They sent us our cards, with several printed out documents and instructions. Unfortunately, eye sight being poor, I couldn’t read all the pages of information they expected us to read. We always had over draft protection, now understand, the only account that needed this, was the one in which our pensions, etc. were deposited in. They came in at different times, but there were larger sums of money in our off shoot accounts. We payed 1 fee per month for this protection. Then comes Alterna. Obviously we missed the fine print, which stated we would be charged $5.00 a day for over draft. So in the period we were waiting to receive our cheques, was 7-10 days. $35.00 to 50.00. Despite numerous calls to this place, and being given phone appointments for a certain day and time, they never called us. We visited the place, and we were told “We are too busy” ! I think we should have received an email stating this, as hanging around the house 3x only for them to be busy, was a big inconvenience. I had made a call, wanting an in bank appointment to explain the documents sent to me, but they were to busy. Despite telling them, I was having trouble reading them and understanding them. Big fees were my punishment for a disability.
We also, have separate accounts to keep a budget going, ever since we joined the original credit union. We were able to transfer money to different accounts to cover our expenses! That was included in our membership fee. Now we are charged for every online transaction if they exceed 2. This is our way of budgeting. My husband was told, you didn’t read the fine print. As for me, I couldn’t see the fine print.
Finally in the future we have an in person meeting, to see if we can pay them extra money to get this feature. They claim they have online banking and suggest you use that. That is for a fee. Now, I will have to go in, and have them do the transfer, unless there is more of a fee!

Well had unique experience this morning on the phone with this bank .Getting very tired of being on a limited income,and the large banks,just treating me as a number .
I called in this morning very stressed and looking for information on an account .The lady who answered the phone ,was radiating warmth ! I've never called a bank ,that wasn't my own ,and felt so at peace n felt so like a person .thank you ..you have no idea what that meant!! The lady said a minimal fee to join ..I'd pay a hundred times that ..for customer service like that !! Because that's super rare nowadays...! This lady is a true benefit to your company:)

Such a disappointment. Either you get people who have years of knowledge and are so helpful (like Kim-lee) or you get people who haven’t had the proper training . As soon as this place went from Quinte first to Alterna it went completely downhill. I used to rave about how amazing the people are and how well they treat you . But as soon as it turned to Alterna , I can not say they have the same values as they have before. I wouldn’t bank here if I were you .

Terrible service...looks like the pattern continues. Have left 3 messages at Branch level, no response. A head office person set up a phone appointment to discuss GIC renewal and never called...one week ago now. Basic service is not even achievable so far on a simple business transaction that I can't do myself on the system.

No answers to the phone, 1-800 not active need to call a special number, soon as my mortgage renews off to Simplii or Tangerine with no banking fees! Cost of a grocery bill in fees per month! Worse Merger ever! Waiting for a cheque to come in for almost 2 weeks, payments aren't coming out due to the account changes (I suspect, but cant get ahold of anyone, lined up out the door only, one customer service rep available in the branch at prime time) LEAVE NOW AND DONT SIGN UP! 1 month in, worse reviews ever. FAIL!
